Belarus Fashion Week SS 2020

Mid-October of this year in Minsk will be remembered for a long time by all fashion lovers and insiders: seven days of shopping with designers from all over Belarus, four days of exclusive fashion shows, two educational programs for fashion industry professionals and more than 10,000 guests. Now enjoy the full report of the 19th season of Belarus Fashion Week!

The organizers are the Belarusian Fashion Chamber public association and the Open Runway PR and communications agency led by Yanina Goncharova. Belarus Fashion Week is a project that shapes the image of Belarusian fashion. Every season the organizers attend foreign fashion weeks and exchange experiences with colleagues to follow trends.

The main goal of the 19th season is to create an effective environment for promoting Belarusian fashion industry globally.

The first step was to create a modern venue for the event in the "Michelangelo" House of the Mayak Minsk residential complex. The three-story spacious building at the National Library united at one place educational lecture hall, a pop-up store of Belarusian designers, an exhibition and a catwalk for fashion shows.

The first days of the fashion forum included educational projects initiated by Yanina Goncharova with the support of Youth Empowered from Coca Cola HBC Belarus, the Swedish Embassy in Belarus, the Swedish Institute and the MOST mobility program.

Fashion Tech Hub opened the session. It’s an educational marathon, forum dedicated to fashion and technology, which also included presentations of innovative startups in the fashion industry. Everyone could get acquainted with such important topics for successful and modern fashion business as monetization of fashion tech, the main PR tools of fashion brands, fashion retail and digitalization.

The next day began with master classes at the Belarus Fashion Forum annual educational business platform for fashion business representatives. This season the forum was dedicated to the topic of Sustainable Fashion (sustainable fashion). The speakers were reputable experts from leading countries in the field of sustainable fashion: Sweden (Mistra Future Fashion, SpinDye), Germany (Fashion Council Germany, NEONYT), Ireland (Circular Fashion), Belarus (Belarus Fashion Chamber, UN Development Program (UNDP) in the Republic of Belarus).

Also daily there were professional sessions of famous fashion figures from Belarus, Ukraine and the UK in the Fashion Talks format. The purpose of the educational lecture is to provide open access to quality education, so everyone could attend the event and chat with fashion industry experts. Speakers of the Belarus Fashion Week: the editor of the fashion department of Harper’s Bazaar Ukraine, Anton Eremenko; fashion blogger Tatyana Scherbakova (Belarus); fashion consultant Felicities and author of the book "How to start your own fashion label" Alison Lowe (UK).

In the pop-up store all designers were provided with a single cash register system, payment terminals, as well as the anti-theft system from Belcomdata. Belarus Fashion Week has always been a source of news. Therefore many media and television channels, including international ones, get accreditation annually. So, the 19th season of Belarus Fashion Week was visited by the outgoing editor of the fashion department Elle Italia Adriana di Lello; fashion analyst, author of fashion books, leading consultant for international fashion weeks Alison Lowe; Getty Images Brian Dowling; the team of ID FASHION TV channel (Ukraine) and many others!

One of the important news stories was the opening of the Fashion Revolution - The Future of Textiles exhibition at Belarus Fashion Week at the Central Atrium of the Dana Mall under support of the Swedish Institute and the Embassy of Sweden in Belarus. At the exhibition visitors learned about modern and effective methods of production, dyeing and processing of textiles; reuse of raw materials and reducing the negative impact on the ecosystem.

Fashion is at the crossroads of various arts and temporary art galleries organically fit into the frameworks of the fashion forum. The artist, member of the Belarusian Fashion Chamber Laura Pavlova, design studio Primo Gatto and the project of the ESh magazine, Art is Hard, presented their works of different styles and techniques which became attractive installations during the show.

With the help of Huawei the bright return of designer Marina Davydova became real! Inspired by the colors of the Huawei P30 PRO smartphones the author created a bright, dynamic capsule with positive mottos in the shape of prints. “Live now and enjoy the moment!” - this is the main message of the Davidova inspired by Huawei installation.

According to the organizers, this season introduced buyers to Belarusian designers and brands; drew attention to the issues of sustainable fashion; allowed designers and industry insiders to participate in educational programs for free. And there is still so much interesting in the future!
